Cheryl Antier is a former VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) Volunteer and VISTA Leader, and served three terms of service. As an active alumni, she believes in the value of service and is committed to helping other VISTA Volunteers succeed during their year of service, which is why she started the Activist Guide Website.
When she was a widow raising two young boys on her own, Cheryl became passionate about issues such as child care for working parents, living wage jobs, health care, affordable housing and believes that true self-sufficiency for low income families is going to come from economic independence. As a VISTA Volunteer, one of her first projects in 1995 was doing research on "microenterprise loan programs" in the States. From the "best practices" of those programs, she created the framework of an innovative microenterprise loan program for women.
"Unluckily, the organization was never able to do anything with it, because the fight turned to "welfare reform" in 1996. But I believe in the principles of microenterprise development and small business" says Antier.
Her most recent book, "The Activist's Guide to Changing the World - for VISTA Volunteers" will be available for sale in September 2006.
Cheryl is a writer, trainer, motivational speaker and fundraising consultant, working with both nonprofit and international small business clients. "I love working with small business owners, helping them find the "creative business capital" resources they need to start or grow their own businesses." she says.
Cheryl's written work has been featured in many publications on the Web, including in the August 2005 Issue of SCORE's ezine.
She is married and currently spends her time between her homes in the U.S. and the south of France.
